The University of New South Wales is one of The Group of Eight (Go8) universities, a coalition of Australia’s leading universities that are engaged in and committed to high-quality teaching, research and scholarship. The Group of Eight universities have research links and staff and student exchanges with the top universities in the world, including those in Asia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Western Europe.

As an active member of Universitas 21, an international alliance of 21 leading universities in 10 countries, UNSW has access to a framework for international collaboration, and exchange of expertise and experience.

Location
The main campus of 85 acres is in Sydney, 20 minutes from the city centre and the airport, and within walking distance of Coogee Beach. The surrounding suburb is called Kensington, which is why the main campus is often referred to as the Kensington campus. The Paddington campus is a short shuttle bus ride from the main campus.
