Sydney Transport
Sydney is serviced by a network of railways, bus routes and ferry lines. Sydney's Central Station is the city's main railway hub, connecting Sydney to other cities in New South Wales and interstate. Central Station and the CBD's other railway stations at Town Hall and Wynyard also operate as hubs for an extensive network of bus services throughout the city.
Transport around Kensington Campus
The University of New South Wales Kensington campus is connected by a series of bus services to the city's CBD, Central Station, and to the ferry terminal at Circular Quay. During semester, a shuttle bus service operates between Central Station and the campus in the morning and evenings. The bus ride is about 15 minutes.
The Kensington campus is also connected by bus services to surrounding areas of Bondi, Coogee and Coogee Beach, the Eastern Suburbs and the suburbs and beaches south of the campus. There is a free shuttle bus connecting the Kensington campus to the Paddington campus, for students studying at the College of Fine Arts (COFA).
Bus Tickets
The most expensive bus ticket option is to purchase a ticket on the bus from the bus driver, for each section travelled. However, there are increasing numbers of bus services that can only accept passengers with pre-paid tickets, and cannot sell any tickets on board.
Pre-paid tickets can be purchased at newsagencies, convenience stores, mixed business stores and tobacconists, and any vendor showing an official "Pre-paid Tickets" sign. Pre-paid tickets are cheaper than regular tickets, and there are two types. The type you select will depend on your travel patterns:
TravelTen - recommended for intermittent bus users. These tickets do not have an expiry date, and allow ten separate journeys. Different coloured TravelTens are issued depending on the length of journey that will be taken. As with Single Ride, these are charged according to the number of sections travelled. Note that if you are caught by an inspector using a lower-distance TravelTen than the journey you are taking, you will be fined.
Travel Passes - recommended for frequent travellers. These expire within a week but permit unlimited travel within a zone. Different coloured Travel Passes are issued depending on the zone to be covered. If you are living in Bondi, and will undertake daily trips to campus and the city, a Red Travel Pass is the best option.
Concession
As a Non-Australian Resident you are not eligible for student concessions on public transport in New South Wales. When purchasing tickets, you must not purchase a student concession ticket, as you will be fined if caught by an inspector. Inspectors regularly patrol the public transport network.
Coogee Night Services
Route 373 operates 24 hours a day between the city and Coogee, hourly on weeknights, and half-hourly on weekends. This is not a free service.
Coogee Pumpkin Bus - This is a free late night bus service that operates late into the night and early hours of the morning on Friday and Saturday nights.
