Volunteering

Why volunteer?
There are many reasons to volunteer. Volunteering is a way to get to help other people, get to know a community, to develop, learn and share skills, to make new friends, and to demonstrate your support or belief in a cause. Contributing time and energy to a cause can be a rewarding experience in its own right, while the experience of having worked in a particular industry or in specialist environments can often be invaluable on a resume.

Placements
Members of ARC, the student association at UNSW, have access to a lot of volunteering opportunities, so those who are keen are advised to check with ARC.

The Study Abroad office also organises some volunteering placements. One of them is at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. If you are interested in volunteering here, there is an information session at the start of each semester at Level 16 of the Mathews Building. The date of the information session is announced at the Study Abroad Orientation event. The information event provides a briefing on the requirements for volunteering at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Sydney Children's Hospital, you may be required to bring a police report from your home state, county or city police, which has jurisdiction over your place of residence for obtaining police records. Procedures and costs vary among the different states and localities. Please note that the report must be the original copy.

There are also opportunities at Struggletown Veterinarian Hospital, Coogee Public School, and the Matthew Talbot Homeless Shelter. If you are interested in these, contact the Study Abroad office for information on how to sign up.
