Unlike many countries in the northern hemisphere, the academic year in Australia coincides with the calendar year. Each academic year has two main semesters. Each semester has 12 weeks of lectures and tutorials, followed by an examination period which usually runs for two and a half weeks. Semester 1 typically runs from early March to June inclusive of the examination period, and Semester 2 from late July to November. There is a short study break before each examination period.
Study Abroad students in the Semester Program are required to be enrolled in a full-time study load. At UNSW, a full-time study load is 24 units of credit (UOC) per semester. Most courses at UNSW are weighted at 6UOC, so for a typical enrolment, you will need to be enrolled in four courses. |
